Where I’m From

by Yasuko Nagasawa

I am from a monkey or a gorilla.
Some people disagree but
I agree with Darwin.

I am from a grain of rice,
A carrot, a pumpkin, an apple and an orange.
I am from fresh fish.

I am from words.
I am still from words.
I can’ t finish creating words yet.
Even, when I finish my life, but that is OK.

I am from New York in the middle of my life.
I am from a new philosophy.
I am from Henry Davis Thoreau
And Toni Morrison.
