The Elements of Science

by Mariah Mouzon, Age 15

MRS. JOHNSON: As I was saying class, the elements of science are a very important part of this class.
KEISHA (to herself): Oh, Lord! I just wish that woman would shut up! Who gives a damn about those elements of science? Hey, the roof looks like it’s going to fall. Maybe if I wish hard enough, it will fall and knock that blasted woman upside her damn head.
MRS. JOHNSON: Keisha! (Her sharp voice breaks Keisha from her thoughts) Can you tell me what you just said?
KEISHA (to herself): I hate when she catches me daydreaming! I wish that blasted roof would fall already.
At that moment, the roof collapses on the teacher.
