My Mirror, My Eyes

This entry is part 13 of 16 in the series Issue VI: Fall 2010

by Melissa Batterson

She looked at herself in the mirror one more time and decided she was ready to face the day with a positive attitude.

Sometimes she had to look at herself just to confirm that she is better than the crap going on around her. That she is beautiful.

It’s funny, the mirror can see things sometimes we do not see ourselves. The mirror is like our eyes. Our eyes see things that sometimes we choose not to see. Not with the mirror, which sees everything and some we still choose to ignore.

Today she looked in the mirror for an extra long time. Not doing make-up, not doing her hair, not doing anything. But making sure she sees everything there is to see.

It’s a little crazy, but they say the eyes are the windows to one’s soul. So if you ever stare long enough in the mirror you can see past the reflection. It’s the only way to look into your own eyes.

Today she really needed to look past the outside and look deep into her own eyes to see what her real friends see. After doing so, she was ready to face the world with a positive light.

Next time you’re feeling down or things are going rough in your life, or even just around you that don’t make you feel so great, go take a long look at yourself in the mirror and look past everything. You see deep inside to the real you.
