November 2011 NYWC Community News

Workshop Leaders in the Limelight:  

 Charles Geer Austin will be a featured reader and Deborah Clearman will also read at the Saturn Poetry Series on Monday, November 7th at the Nightingale Lounge on 13th Street and 2nd Avenue in the East Village at 7 PM.

Frank Haberle‘s story Digger will appear in the upcoming MSR Sports Fiction Anthology Suicidally Beautiful.

Eileen Sutton received an Honorable Mention from Glimmer Train’s Short Story Award For New Writers. Her story, Into The Wind, placed in the top 5% of over a thousand entries.

Avra Wing be reading from her poetry chapbook, Recurring Dream (which won the 2011 Pecan Grove Press poetry chapbook competition) on Nov. 18 at 7:00 at the Community Bookstore at 143 7th Ave. in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Community News:

Workshop member Miquel Angel Angeles‘ short story, Este Dulce Frio (which was started in our workshop from a prompt by the same title – “This sweet chill”) was published in the anthology From Macho to Mariposa: New Gay Latino Fiction.

Congrats to NYWC Communications and Development Manager Erin Hopkins on the birth of her son Elliott Hopkins Weber!

PUBSLUSH Press is a new full service publishing platform that links writers with readers, and literature with literacy.  It works by authors uploading samples of their work to their website and then users read, share, and support what they’d like to see published.For every book they sell, they donate a book to a child in need, creating a full circle of giving.
