Write-A-Thon 2012: Power (and inspiration) in numbers

Write-A-Thonner’s enjoy a talk by radio host Ira Glass

At the 7th annual NYWC Write-A-Thon, more than 70 writers came together for a day of uninterrupted writing, collaborative workshops, and keen-eyed revision. The event, hosted  Sunday, June 24, at the Mark Morris Dance Center, offered attendees an entire day to devote to writing. In a variety of high-spirited workshops, writers gained useful feedback, but also a sense of community and connectedness. Ira Glass, the host of the popular radio show and podcast This American Life, spoke to guests about the art of storytelling. Write-A-Thonners went home at the end of the day feeling inspired, proud, and deservedly exhausted. Thanks to these writers, the Write-A-Thon brought in over $20,000 to fund NYWC’s free writing workshops across the city for groups whose voices are typically overlooked. The event was, without a doubt, a whirlwind success.
