Creative Writing Workshop Leaders
NYWC trains volunteers to lead creative writing workshops that provide a safe, supportive environment in which writers can find and expand their voices, take risks in writing and be part of a non-competitive writing community. Once trained, volunteer workshop leaders participate fully in all workshops they lead: writing, reading aloud and providing supportive feedback to workshop participants. Workshop leaders gain leadership skills while being part of a rewarding process of personal and interpersonal discovery.
If you are interested in becoming a NYWC volunteer creative writing workshop leader, please click here and fill out our online application. If you have any questions about the application, please email Nancy L. Weber at nancy[at]nywriterscoalition.org.
Workshop leaders undergo 20 initial hours of training, followed by another 4 hours of training on their own. Our next training session will be Friday April 13, Saturday April 14, Sunday April 15, and Thursday April 19. Friday and Thursday sessions take place in the evening from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday and Sunday sessions take place from 10 am to 6 PM each day). Trainings take place at NYWC’s offices in Fort Greene Brooklyn. The deadline to apply is February 21, 2012 and interviews will take place in early March. Those selected as volunteers will be notified by March 16, 2012.
Program Intern
NYWC is also seeking a Program Intern to support our free creative writing programs for unheard New Yorkers. 2012 marks our Tenth Anniversary year and will feature many exciting events and public programs designed to raise funds and increase public awareness for NYWC. The Program Intern will gain experience with many aspects of the nonprofit arts field, while working with one of the largest community-based writing programs in the country. The Program Intern will develop and implement social media campaigns, assist with events and development, conduct research, create books of writing by our workshop members, and perform administrative duties as needed. This is a great opportunity to work in a relaxed atmosphere, develop a wide array of skills, and gain hands-on experience. The Program Intern is an unpaid position, but a travel stipend will be provided. We are happy to do whatever is required for the Program Intern to receive college credit.
