It Is What Did Not Happen
That Appears the Most Real

Duane Locke

Harlequin had an enlarged heart
Stitched on the cloth
Over his small heart.

Harlequin was half blue and half silver.
Glittered in the moonlight
That was yellow cellophane over cut-out circle.

Harlequin was the one the girl with dark hair
Imagined she loved, this unseen, unknown Harlequin,
As she sit, half-naked, half-silver before the mirror.
