Nurture your creativity, find time to write, get inspired, visit The Big Easy, and be part of a a supportive small group of other writers at NYWC’s New Orleans Retreat! Led by NYWC’s Founder and Executive Director, Aaron Zimmerman, who has nearly 15 years experience leading powerful, transformative, and fun creative writing workshops.
Our home will be one of the oldest Creole Cottages in the city, built circa. 1808. Our retreat complex has some of the finest examples of architecture and details fashionable in the 1700’s and early 1800’s. The complex features a Main House and guest cottages, kitchens, washers and dryers, 3 courtyards and a hot tub. (More pictures are at the bottom of this page.)
We will be one short block from the French Quarter and one block from Bourbon Street, and we will have time for writing workshops, and for exploring the city together and also on your own. The retreat includes 5 nights accommodations, daily writing workshops, one 30 minute private writing conference, breakfast and lunch prepared by our chef Margaret Chen of Savory Sweet Living, a tour of the real New Orleans conducted by staff from New Orleans’ Neighborhood Story Project, a trip to the Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival, and more!.
The cost is $1,700 (airfare not included) for single occupancy rooms. A limited number of shared rooms are available at the reduced cost of $1,275. The cost for the workshops and meals only (for local folks who don’t need a room) is $1,000 All proceeds from the New Orleans retreat will benefit NYWC’s free programs for unheard people! So you will be writing for a great cause! A $400 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your place, and full payment is due by September 21.
