Started in 2005, the Write-A-Thon gathers writers for an entire day to give their writing a little TLC. Participants can: generate new material, revise a piece they’ve been working on, delve into research, join free NYWC-style writing workshops, sit back and free write, or a combination of all of the above.
Past Write-A-Thon keynote speakers have included Colson Whitehead, Jennifer Belle, Ira Glass, Nicole Dennis-Benn, and other established artists.
This year’s featured speaker was Lisa Brennan-Jobs, author of the critically acclaimed memoir Small Fry.
We’ll see you at next year’s Write-A-Thon!
To sign up for the Write-A-Thon, interested participants must raise at least $200. Only 50 spots Write-A-Thon spots are available, so start thinking about whom or how to ask! Top fundraisers who exceed the $200 minimum can also win incredible prizes; see this year’s list here.
Proceeds from the Write-A-Thon support NYWC’s ongoing work to provide free and low-cost writing workshops for underserved groups across New York City.
