Outreach Workshops
Through partnerships with local social service organizations, NY Writers Coalition provides weekly workshop opportunities for youth and adults in New York City in several core programs: Criminal Justice, Health & Wellness, Homeless & Formerly Homeless, LGBTQ, Women & Girls, and Youth. These workshops are free and part of long-term programs, with each writing group running a minimum of six months.

- Rikers Island, North Infirmary Command (NIC): Workshop for men currently incarcerated at Rikers Island.
- The Lighthouse: Workshop at a transitional living residence for formerly homeless & runaway youth in Manhattan.
- 14th Street Y- Educational Center for Retired Adults: Two workshops in Manhattan for older adults, center operated by The Educational Alliance.
- Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library: Workshop primarily for visually impaired in a branch of the New York Public Library in Chelsea, Manhattan.
- CIDNY: Center for Independence of the Disabled, Manhattan, services for people with physical and mental disabilities.
- Creative Center: Workshop at an arts center in Manhattan for people living with cancer.
- JUF Day Hab: Workshop for adults with physical and mental disabilities in Brooklyn.
- NY Presbyterian Psychiatric Unit: Two workshops for inpatients in acute care in Manhattan hospital.
- Port Morris Wellness Center: Workshop in a community clinic for patients undergoing treatment for opiate abuse/dependency on methadone maintenance. The clinic is a South Bronx outpost of the Division of Substance Abuse of Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
- SAGE: Workshop at a Manhattan community center for GLBT elders
- Serendipity II: Workshop at a residence in Brooklyn for formerly incarcerated women seeking substance abuse treatment.
- Two Bridges: Workshop at a mental health shelter for women experiencing homelessness.
- VISIONS: Workshop for blind seniors in a residence for the blind and visually impaired in Manhattan.
Homeless & Formerly Homeless Programs
- The Lighthouse: Workshop at a transitional living residence for formerly homeless & runaway youth in Manhattan.
- The Times Square: Workshop at a supportive housing residence for low-income/formerly homeless adults, individuals with serious mental illness and persons living with HIV/AIDS.
- Tillary Street Women’s Shelter: Workshop at an Institute for Community Living (ICU) shelter for women living with mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
- Two Bridges: Workshop at a mental health shelter for women experiencing homelessness.
- SAGE: Two workshops at Manhattan community center for LGBT elders.
- Rikers Island, Rose M. Singer Center (RMSC): Workshop for women currently incarcerated on Rikers Island. ON HIATUS.
- Tillary Street Women’s Shelter: Workshop at an Institute for Community Living (ICU) shelter for women living with mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
- Two Bridges: Workshop at a mental health shelter for women experiencing homelessness.
- North Star Academy: After-school workshop at middle-grade charter school in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.
- Brooklyn East Collegiate (BEAST): Workshop at middle-grade charter school in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
- Fort Greene Park Summer Workshops and Literary Festival: Summer-long, outdoor writing workshops for 40 young people aged 6-18 in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. SEASONAL/ANNUAL.
