Meditate & Generate

In this three-week virtual Black Writers Program workshop, Joy Notoma will lead participants in an interactive discussion about Rev. angel Kyodo williams’ groundbreaking book, Being Black: Zen and the Art of Living With Fearlessness and Grace. Williams, a native New Yorker and Zen Buddhist priest, wrote Being Black to present “the themes of ancient Buddhism and frame them for modern Black folks and people of color."

This workshop is for people at all experience levels practicing meditation and mindfulness—including those who have never meditated before! Each week, Joy will lead a discussion of key themes in the book, focusing on how and why meditation can be a dynamic tool for writers. There will also be prompts inspired by the book, brief meditation, and time to share your writing. (A rough breakdown of the workshop is: 20% meditation, 30% discussion, and 50% writing/sharing.)

SATURDAYS / 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. ET VIA ZOOM
JANUARY 20 – FEBRUARY 3

Meditate & Generate will be capped at 12 participants. Please do not register if you are unable to attend all three weeks.
