VIRTUAL WORKSHOP FAQ

Thank you for participating in NY Writers Coalition’s Virtual Public Workshops!
All virtual public workshops are held over Zoom. We know technology can be frustrating and sometimes can fail us. If you find yourself having difficulties during a virtual public workshop registration process or workshop cycle, please click the FAQs drop-down menu below prior to reaching out to an NYWC staff member. You may find the answers you’re looking for before we are able to get back to you.
Best,
Team NYWC

How do I register for a workshop?

Each workshop has a registration link that is unique to that specific workshop. Please visit our website for registration links. All sliding scale fee workshops registration takes place via Tixoom.

Registration for our upcoming multi-week workshops takes place on Wednesday, February 21 at 3 p.m. ET. Registration for all Write-Ins takes place on a rolling basis.

I’ve registered for a workshop. Where can I find the Zoom link?

Once you’ve registered for a workshop, you will automatically get a confirmation email directly from Tixoom. Please be sure to check your spam/junk and other alternate folders (like “Updates” or “Promotions”) if you don’t see it in your inbox.

If you still can’t find your confirmation email and would like for our staff to resend it to you, please email workshops@nywriterscoalition.org BEFORE the date of your first workshop.

It is the day of my workshop and I cannot find the confirmation email. What do I do?

The confirmation email you receive from Tixoom should also have your workshop’s Zoom Meeting ID listed.

Please try manually inputting the Meeting ID into Zoom to access the workshop before reaching out to our staff, as this usually resolves any log-in issues.

NOTE: To successfully access the workshop using the Meeting ID, you must be logged into Zoom using the email address you provided to register for the workshop.

It is the day of my workshop and I cannot access the Zoom room. What do I do?

Please make sure you are attempting to access the Zoom room using the email address you provided to register. Zoom will only recognize that email address.

Additionally, please make sure you are indeed registered to attend the workshop you are trying to access. If a leader directly sends you a Zoom link, for example, that does not guarantee you are registered—Zoom’s security will not allow you to access these workshops if you have not registered.

I’m in the Zoom waiting room but the leader has not shown up. What do I do?

Our leaders are wonderful, but they are also human. Sometimes they run a moment or two behind or are having a technical issue of their own. Other times, something may have come up. We ask that you please be patient and give our leaders a grace period of 15 minutes maximum.

If 15 minutes have passed and you have not heard from either the workshop leader or an NYWC staff member, please assume the workshop is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, and know that you’ll hear from us soon!

I’ve had an issue (listed here or not listed here) and I’d like to speak with a staff member. What do I do?

If your issues have not been resolved by any of the answers provided above, please reach out to workshops@nywriterscoalition.org. If possible, please refrain from emailing a direct staff member—particularly outside of business hours. Half of our staff is part-time and may not be available to assist you near or during your workshop time.
